Cougars News · Message from Wrestling Coach Allerding

Congratulations to Bryson Palmer and Jakob Hurley for qualifying for the STATE wrestling tournament! Also congratulations to Tyler Jude for earning a State alternate spot! These wrestlers along with Johnny Douglas and Trent Jude competed at the district wrestling tournament at Hilliard Darby this weekend. Top 4 placers in each weight class advance to the state tournament. Bryson Palmer and Jakob Hurley each finished 3rd place to punch their ticket to state! Tyler Jude finished 5th place and will be a state alternate, which means if someone in his class doesn’t make weight or something like that, he will get in. They wrestled outstanding all weekend long even in the most nerve wracking situations. This is the first time in 13 years Westland has qualified wrestlers to the State Tournament. They also earned a top 10 finish as a team, placing 10th out of 47 teams! These young men are outstanding wrestlers, outstanding students, and outstanding leaders, if you have them in class or see them in the hall please congratulate them, as this is the ultimate goal for high school wrestlers. The State Tournament will begin this Friday, March 13 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus. Division 3 starts first, we are Division 1 and will begin around 5pm. Both wrestlers will be on Mat 1 if you plan on coming out and supporting the Cougar wrestlers.
